Recapping the Savant Build Programme Demo Day
Cape Town, South Africa — 17 Oct 2024 —We are thrilled to share the incredible success stories from the recently concluded Savant Build Programme Demo Day, where we showcased six groundbreaking startups leading the charge in the green economy. Each company presented remarkable traction and key milestones that position them for scalable success.
The evening was an inspiring celebration of innovation, featuring presentations from our visionary founders in a packed room of investors and ecosystem enablers, all of whom we are proud to have in our network. This event marked a significant milestone for the program, highlighting the exceptional achievements of the participating companies:
1. PyrolTech
Leading the sustainable processing of wood waste, PyrolTech is revolutionising the construction and agriculture sectors with its innovative products. Their offerings include PyrolCrete, a sustainable alternative to concrete, and PyrolWood, a moisture and pest-resistant timber. PyrolTech has achieved impressive results: a 48% weight reduction, a 20% decrease in water usage, and a 38% cost saving, all while providing greener solutions that benefit key industries.
2. Switch Energy
Switch Energy is making significant strides in smart energy management. They currently manage 12,000 smart metres and have licensed software to three metering companies. Their commitment to innovation is evident as they secure two energy trading pilots and advance a government contract aimed at optimising smart energy solutions.
3. BioAge
Pioneering bio-fertiliser solutions through advanced molecular farming techniques, BioAge has made remarkable progress since its launch in 2021. The company became revenue-generating within just 12 months, thanks to proprietary bio-fertiliser formulations. In 2023, they successfully completed their Act 36 certification, solidifying their position in the industry.
4. STROOM
With a production design factory established, STROOM has pivoted to cargo e-bikes, demonstrating a strong commitment to sustainability. The company has completed over 40,000 km in deliveries, created 30 green-tech jobs, and offset 3.8 tons of CO2 through a partnership with the Bavarian government.
5. Khepri Biosciences
Khepri Biosciences is making waves in the waste management sector by processing three tons of organic waste weekly. Their innovative waste-to-feed solutions have earned them key partnerships with the CSIR and the prestigious Royal Academy Award in 2024, highlighting their commitment to sustainability.
6. Homefarm
Revolutionising urban agriculture, Homefarm has achieved a 100% trial-to-contract conversion and a 90% customer retention rate. In just 24 months, they have expanded to 38 subscribed Homefarm sites, making pesticide-free indoor farming more accessible to communities.
