How Our Portfolio Companies Are Making an Impact Globally
At Savant, we believe that technology and innovation can change the world. By supporting hardware and deeptech companies with sustainable competitive advantages, we help our portfolio ventures scale internationally and make a positive impact on industries, communities, and the environment. Below are some examples of how our companies are reshaping their sectors globally.
One example is the Stellenbosch Nanofiber Company (SNC), which has developed and commercialized the world’s largest capacity, proprietary electrospinning technology. Their nanofibers are used to make unique materials for use in the medical, cosmetics, filtration, and decarbonization industries globally. Their latest innovation involves the spinning and weaving of polymer nanofibers for use in Direct Air Capture (DAC) for the removal of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. In this process, large fans direct air to an ultra-high surface area filter or mask (a fabric made from the weaving of nanofibers). The filter captures the carbon and allows air to pass through it. To reuse the filter, a current is passed through it causing the carbon to detach from the filter and be stored or sequestered.
Adagin powers precision farm management for high-value crops, giving growers real-time job-costing, piecework tracking via a smartphone app, and plant-to-pallet traceability across harvesting and packing. Used in table grapes, citrus, apples & pears, stone fruit, and berries, Adagin’s dashboards help farms cut waste, boost productivity, and improve profitability, now serving clients in South Africa and Europe (with a Netherlands office).
Snuza is another strong example, with baby sleep and movement monitors developed in South Africa and now rated 4.5/5 on Amazon International. They have saved countless infants worldwide while allowing parents to sleep stress-free, knowing that the Snuza device will wake the baby should breathing movements slow or stop and alert the parents.
Leatt further demonstrates this global impact. Leatt Corporation designs, develops, markets, and distributes innovative personal protective and performance equipment for participants in all forms of motor sports and leisure activities, including riders of motorcycles, bicycles, snowmobiles, and ATVs. The initial product (out of over 250 unique SKUs), the Leatt Neck Brace, has saved motocross and other riders from paralysis the world over. The company is listed on the Nasdaq and has given investors handsome returns.
Finally, Homefarm is tackling the critical challenges of food security and sustainable agriculture. Through its modular vertical farming systems, Homefarm empowers urban communities, businesses, and institutions to produce fresh, nutritious food on-site while drastically cutting down food miles and environmental impact. By advancing local food production, Homefarm contributes to a healthier, more resilient world.
Together, these companies highlight the breadth and depth of our portfolio. From healthcare and food security to consumer safety and environmental sustainability, our investees demonstrate that African innovation can drive solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges. We are proud to partner with them on this journey of global impact.
