The SAVANT team has kicked of with a busy but exciting first quarter. The biggest highlight was participating in the Cebit National Pavilion in Hannover, Germany from 1 to 6 March 2010. SAVANT was sharing the country stand with seven South African companies. The participating companies were Redline Telecommunications, Sensepost, MyVoip, Candor, IQ Retail, QWIX and Dariel Solutions. The SA Electrotechnical Export council (SAEEC) also participated and promoted exports of the country.
SAVANT also exhibited at the African Utility Week which was during February in Durban. The space was shared with SAEEC. The opening session was dedicated to the Department of Energy’s vision for the next four years. It was opened by Honourable Minister of Energy Dipuo Peters followed by the speech of Amb (ret.) Joseph Wilson and a panel discussion about driving investment within the African utilities sector.
Looking at the year ahead, two roadshows are planned where international journalists from prominent business journals are invited to learn more about our world class sub-sectors and write articles in return to showcase our capabilities. SAVANT will also be participating in the East African Power Industry Convention in Kenya during September and Gitex Technology Week during October in Dubai. SAVANT is also planning a road trip with the Joburg Centre for Software Engineering (JCSE) again to endorse the roll-out of CMMI and TSP/PSP in the country. SAVANT with the JCSE is aiming to set up two more pilot sites outside of Gauteng and is exploring the Western Cape and KwaZulu Natal possibly. For those of you that haven’t become involved with CMMI yet must please visit www.jcse.org.za CMMI is a process improvement model that is used to rate the maturity of organisations’ processes. It was developed by the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in Pittsburgh in the USA to assists companies from a host of sectors improve their ability to develop high quality software and systems.
