April has been a short, however busy month with May seeing new events like Africa Utility Week and the ITA Skills Summit. The SAVANT team is slightly smaller as of May, Yusuf Timol, Director of the Electrotechnical unit has taken up a great opportunity abroad. He is going to be a Foreign Economic Representative for the dti in Tehran, Iran for the next four years. The office in Tehran is brand new and Yusuf has been given the great responsibility of starting the new trade office. Yusuf headed the Electrotechnical unit within Enterprise and Industry Development just short of six years with a rich legacy. He played a significant role in writing the Investment Promotion and Development Strategy for Trade and Investment South Africa, played a great part in the Digital Migration Strategy as well as having the Customised Sector Programmes approved for the Electrotechnical Sector.

As Nomfuneko Majaja, Chief Director of Advanced Manufacturing, (the greater unit that Electrotechnical forms a part of) is quoted, “It has been a pleasure to work with Yusuf even though is was a short period. He is a kind of a person who took his work with high regard and was eager to share his experiences on the Sector with his colleagues and very good in mentoring his staff. He is leaving the unit, the sector and the country at a time when people of his caliber are greatly required to fast track the implementation of some of the Strategic programmes such as the Digital Migration Strategy.”

The SAVANT team and the Advanced Manufacturing Unit wish Yusuf well with his new career path.
